How many right things did your child do today? List them down.
Children are programmed to:
- seek parents’ attention and
- please parents.
It is instinctive.
When parents give attention to the right things that children do, children are more likely to please parents with the right things and other positive behaviours.
When parents give attention only to the mistakes that children do, negative attention is better than no attention at all. Negative behaviours are likely to intensify.
Children need to know that they are capable of behaving well and do the right things that please you.
Pay attention to them, catch them being good and praise them when their behaviour pleases you.
